Timber Town from alleycatgames was one of the games I was looking forward to seeing at Gen Con. The tile-laying feels very reminiscent of other games, but the river drafting mechanism adds some unique challenges that I found really enjoyable!

Gokyesa: The Flying Artist. This was a cute little card game that a friend brought back from South Korea. Very similar to Uno, but with a couple of twists that make it way more fun to play!

It combines card-crafting with a clever hand-shedding mechanic that had me chasing those perfect combos. Every decision felt meaningful, and the tension of which cards to flip to the night side or which power up to add was chef’s kiss. 👌

Since we had just played Last Will again recently, it seemed like a good time to finally try The Prodigals Club. Despite keeping the fun, quirky theme from Last Will, I was surprised that the game felt quite different. I was expecting a “Last Will 2.0”, but Prodigals Club definitely stands on its own!

Just had my first dive into Endeavor: Deep Sea from Grand Gamers Guild and Burnt Island Games — and I’m completely hooked. 🐠🌊 A gorgeous, brainy blend of exploration, strategy, and conservation that had me planning three moves ahead and still getting surprised.

I figured I’d better get it played finally, since it just snagged a Kennerspiel des Jahres nomination — well deserved! If you like your euros with depth (literally and figuratively), this one’s worth surfacing for.

Just had another amazing game night with Last Will by Vladimir Suchy and Czech Games Edition — There’s something hilariously satisfying about trying to spend your fortune as fast as possible. The theme is so clever and upside-down: hire bad employees, throw extravagant parties, and invest poorly on purpose. The mechanisms are tight and thematic in the best way — everything just clicks. If you’re into euro games with a twist (and a sense of humor), Last Will is absolutely worth checking out.

Everyone knows that I’m a huge LOTR nerd, so I was super excited to finally get a chance to play The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle Earth from Repos Production! I really enjoyed the tweaks that were made from the original. I like the fact that military now has you placing and moving troops around a map. The One Ring track where the Nazgûl are trying to overtake Frodo is also really cool! A fun game with beautiful artwork!

Kutna Hora from Czech Games Edition has a lot of really interesting things going on! Between the way the goods market fluctuates and the double-sided card play for actions, it definitely feels like an innovative game. I do wish we could get an expansion just to add some variability, but I still think this is a really enjoyable game!

Over the weekend we had a chance to learn Fromage, a game that was on my “Games from 2024 that I still need to play” list…and it was great! Loved the simultaneous play and the spatial aspect of returning your workers. As a bonus, we were also taught Elephant Ball Balancing Act, which was a super clever hand shedding game!

Last night we checked out Victory Garden, a fun new roll-and-write from Tunnel Monster Collective. I’m not big on roll-and-writes, generally speaking, but this one went over really well. I also love the charming art and vibrant colors!
